1. Monthly Member Meeting, Wed., March 23th KSC Room 5 B&C

The meeting agenda:

2. Furlough Appeal hearing

Furlough Trial Rescheduled at Request of Judge

On February 17th, TEA, ATU and King County were contacted by the law clerk for Judge McPhee with a request to reschedule the Furlough Trial. Turns out the Judge was in the middle of a three week trial and needed more time to finish the trial by the end of February.

The purpose for the trial is that King County has appealed PERC's decision ordering King County to pay TEA (WW Sups & Transit) and ATU members back-pay for the furlough days imposed in 2009. The trial, which is King County v. PERC, was scheduled for February 18, 2011 at 2pm in Thurston County Superior Court with Judge Thomas McPhee. The trial date is April 22nd.

3. New Transit Bargaining Labor Negotiator

Effective 2/18, Jim Meith has replaced David Levin as King County's labor negotiator for the Transit Staff contract. The new assignment was part of a shake-up within King County's Human Resources Division that was announced in a February 18th email from Director Patti Cole-Tindall.

TEA has been in contact with Jim Meith and has set up a series of bargaining sessions that begin when Mr. Meith returns from his vacation. Bargaining sessions are scheduled for: March 31, April 15, April 21, April 28, May 5, May 13

The Transit Bargaining Committee has been meeting regularly to prepare for the bargaining process. In addition, the Committee developed a member survey to solicit input for bargaining. The survey was distributed to Transit members on March 7th. A meeting with Transit members was held on March 8th to answer questions about the bargaining process. Future meetings are planned to keep Transit members informed of bargaining progress.

4. Grievance Committee needs Transit members

The TEA Grievance Committee consists of WW and Transit TEA members who agree to evaluate written grievances and become advocates for members who file a grievance. The Committee meets once each month and volunteers may need to attend additional meetings if they are assigned as an advocate for any particular grievance. At this time, the Committee is looking for additional members from Transit. If you are interested in participating on the TEA Grievance Committee, please contact Ken Madden.

5. Council of Reps

We still have some work groups without representation, if yours is one of those and you have an interest or a nomination, please See Alton Gaskill. A planned topic at the next Council of Reps meeting will explore the possibility of a 2nd Council of Representatives chair / meeting that is exclusive to Transit issues.
