1. May Meeting Schedule

   May  7 - Board Meeting, 12-1, KSC 4G

2. Transit Staff Contract Arbitration

The arbitration for the Transit Staff contract began on Monday, April 14th at the office of at the Summit Law Group. TEA presented first during the hearing with the following witnesses: Ken Madden, Sally Turner, Garrett Stronks, Nancy Gordon, Paul Miller and wage-analysis consultant Kate Kremer. In addition, TEA called Chris Egan to testify. TEA presented seven volumes of exhibits including wage comparisons from Sound Transit, Port of Seattle, City of Seattle and City of Bellevue.

On the first day of arbitration, King County requested a later start time. On the next day, the parties continued the hearing into the evening, ending at 7:30pm. The County began its presentation on Thursday, April 17. On Friday, April 18, the County notified arbitrator Michael Beck that they would need additional time to complete their presentation. The next available date on Mr. Beck's calendar is May 21. The arbitration is scheduled to continue on this date. The parties have also scheduled Mr. Beck for July 1 in the event that another day is needed.

The Arbitration was a public meeting and several TEA members chose to attend as observers. Seating for observers is limited to chairs around the perimeter of the conference room. Anyone interested in attending on May 21 should do so. Those planning to attend should coordinate the time away from their work group.


3. Wastewater Contract Bargaining Update

The WW Supervisor Contract was presented to the King County General Government and Labor Relations Committee on Tuesday, 4/22, and approved to go to the full Council with a "due pass" recommendation. Roger Browne represented TEA before the Committee to answer questions about the contract and the bargaining process. The full Council is scheduled to consider the WW Supervisor contract at their meeting on Monday, May 5th.

The following bargaining sessions are schedule between TEA and King County:

   5/07/08 - WW Contract Bargaining Session
   5/15/08 - WW Contract Bargaining Session
   5/20/08 - WW Contract Bargaining Session
   5/29/08 - WW Contract Bargaining Session

The WW Bargaining Team is scheduled to meet on Wed., 5/28 from 12-1 in room 5B.


4. Announcements

  • King County Councilmember Larry Phillips will be holding his annual salmon bake gathering on Saturday, May 21, from 1-4pm at the Daybreak Star Center at Discovery Park. Mr. Phillips contacted TEA to invite anyone who is interested to attend.
