1. Paid Parental Leave Vote

On Monday, December 7, King County Council passed Ordinance 18190, the Paid Parental Leave (PPL) Pilot program. A Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) has been offered to TEA for review and signature by February 1, 2016. The PPL will be effective as of January 1, 2016.

As part of the agreement, King County Family and Medical Leave (KCFML) will run concurrent to the federal Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), effective August 1, 2016, and will not expire.

While the MOA is written for TEA as a whole, each bargaining unit -- Transit Staff, Wastewater Staff, and Wastewater Supervisors -- will be voting as individual bargaining units. The Office of Labor Relations will provide TEA with three separate MOAs.

The TEA Board is asking for your vote on whether or not to sign the MOA allowing TEA to participate in the PPL pilot program for 2016. The MOA will be available for your review on the TEA bulletin boards in the 5th floor kitchens, and on the TEA website.

Expect ballots to be distributed the week of January 11. Please return ballots to your TEA Representative or Hillary Schafer no later than 1PM January 20.

2. Leave Donation Request

Brent Hokenson, in WTD’s Civil Engineers & Designers group, is in need of leave donations following the birth of his new daughter.

Please contact your HR office for the appropriate forms and process for donations. Thank you!
