2. WW Bargaining

Currently TEA is mediating the wastewater supervisor's contract.  There is one mediation sessions coming up on May 19th.  The supervisors have an excellent bargaining team with Laura Wharton and Bill Wilbert representing the bargaining unit.  Their work has been exemplary and reflects the high level of professionalism in this bargaining unit.

The wastewater staff contract is set to expire at the end of this year.  An initial bargaining committee meeting was held on March 16th.  Another bargaining committee meeting was held on April 20thThe current members of the committee are Mark Lucas, Wyatt Wood, Shahrzad Namini, Alton Gaskill, Casey Plank and Robin Robinson.  I encourage people to contact me if you are interested in being a member of the committee and help guide the negotiations this year.

The committee is currently soliciting ideas for items to negotiate.  The committee will discuss all topics that come from members and see if there are any other issues outstanding from the last contract.  A list of items to negotiate will be prioritized with input from the membership.  The committee selects a bargaining team which is then approved by the board.  During negotiations the bargaining committee and bargaining team will meet to discuss progress and strategy.  The next bargaining committee meeting will be held on May 11th noon in conference room 5F.

3. ULP Update

TEA sent a letter to PERC Executive Director Cathy Callahan to inquire about the status of the ULP; the full Commission needs to rule on the appeal by King County. Ms. Callahan responded on 4/20 to confirm that the "Commission is working on this matter," but that she is "unable to provide an estimated date for issuance of this decision" by the Commission.

TEA will continue to monitor PERC's progress on this issue and keep you informed of any changes.
