Wastewater Class Grievance Arbitration Scheduled
The County has finally agreed on a date to meet in a binding arbitration hearing to resolve the contract wage settlement question of July 1 2005 step advancement for those classifications that were already 'class-comped'. TEA's position is that that contract (and our understanding) clearly state these members were eligible (unless topped out in their range); the County argues that was never their intent and the contract context supports it. Arbitration will settle this issue once and for all. It is now scheduled for January 17, 2007.
New Nominating Committee members sought
It is again time to create a new Nominating Committee in advance of TEA Board elections this September. Per the Bylaws: "The Nominating Committee shall be a standing committee for the purpose of campaigning for and presenting a slate of at least one candidate for each Board Office of the TEA to be voted on at the next Annual or Special Meeting." We need three volunteers to help us nominate candidates for President, Vice President, and Secretary. (Volunteers need to agree to serve on the Committee for one year, should officer vacancies open later.) This is a way to help out your union in a very direct way - without having to put in a huge amount of effort! ;-) Please let any Board member know of your interest ASAP - thanks!

Announcements
Local (free) art exhibit of note: Held over only until the end of July, Art Xchange (512 1st Ave S) is showing a powerful exhibit, "The Legacies of War". It sheds new light on the Vietnam War-era U.S. bombings in Laos and their harmful effects on local villagers today. With historic drawings by survivors and Laotian silk weavings and paintings - well worth a lunchtime or anytime visit!
